4 of the best free concerts in Fort Lauderdale this year

South Florida’s reputation as a cultural destination is backed up by the city’s embrace of accessible art and art experiences. Throughout the calendar year, a number of free events and festivals ensure that residents and visitors to the area have access to diverse artistic experiences, including free music.

Fort Lauderdale’s outstanding weather makes it ideal for outdoor concerts, and there are excellent indoor and outdoor music options throughout the spring and summer months. If you’re looking for fun, free concerts in to tap your foot or dance to, check out these four series taking place in 2019.

1. Tunes ‘n Trucks Concert Series

The city of Sunrise’s wildly popular outdoor concert series Tunes ‘n Trucks is back for another year of rockin’ live music and the area’s best food trucks at the Sunrise Civic Center Amphitheater. Trucks have their grills fired up by 6pm and the music starts by 7! This year’s lineup includes Message in a Bottle, a tribute to the Police and Sting, and Johnny Wild and the Delights playing a set of favorites from the 50s and 60s. Music fans are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair and arrive early as good spots on the lawn can disappear fast.

2. The Casino at Dania Beach Concert Series

The Casino at Dania Beach is home to Stage 954, an 850-person concert hall that is proud to present top singers, bands, comedians and other attractions from all around the globe. Music fans should take note of The Casino at Dania Beach’s free concerts featuring some of the most popular music from the past few decades.

“At The Casino at Dania Beach, we’re proud to be a location where couples and friends can experience a bit of time travel while very much enjoying the present. April’s free concerts included tributes to Pearl Jam and Bon Jovi, and we have an upcoming Queen tribute in May,” says a spokesperson for The Casino at Dania Beach. “Free concerts are added regularly, so be sure to keep checking the upcoming events calendar!”

3. Old Town Untapped in downtown Pompano Beach

Music, art, food and beer from local breweries are featured at the free Old Town Untapped series the first Friday of most months. Located in the heart of downtown Pompano Beach, Old Town Untapped highlights some of the area’s best local musicians and brewers and includes a Fire & Light Fountain show every half hour from 7 to 9pm.

4. Friday Night Sound Waves at Fort Lauderdale Beach

Sponsored by the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Beach Business Improvement District, the popular free concert series Friday Night Sound Waves is making it’s return to beach for 2019!  Featuring an eclectic mix of Americana, Blues, Country, Funk, Indie Rock, Reggae and Classic Rock, there is something for everyone every Friday night on Fort Lauderdale Beach Hub through July 5th.

“There are a number of nearby restaurants within walking distance offering happy hour specials, making it possible to grab a bite to eat before the show or get take out and bring it back,” says a spokesperson for The Casino at Dania Beach.

Music has a rich cultural tradition in South Florida, and these free concerts serve as a great calendar of events to choose from when seeking out a fun, vibrant music experience.
